All-ceramic crowns

An all-ceramic crown is made entirely of ceramic – so it transmits and reflects light almost like a natural tooth – and it is crafted in our laboratory, often in a single day.

What is an all-ceramic crown?

In an all-ceramic (fully ceramic) crown, both the base and the surface are made of ceramic. There is no metal framework, so the crown transmits and reflects light in a way very similar to a natural tooth – with no greyness at the gum and no “artificial” sheen.

Ceramic crowns are the type of crown we make most often. They are the first choice for front teeth, where a natural look matters most, but are also used in other parts of the smile.

What the day looks like

  1. 01

    Examination and plan

We assess your teeth, gums and bite beforehand and confirm that same-day treatment is possible.

  2. 02

    Preparation and digital impression

The teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic and scanned.

  3. 03

    Design

The dental technician designs the crowns to suit your bite and your smile.

  4. 04

    Fabrication and firing

The crowns are made and fired in a ceramic furnace, then refined and coloured.

  5. 05

    Try-in and cementation

The shape, colour and bite are checked, followed by permanent fitting – on the same day.

Ceramic or zirconia?

  • All-ceramic crown – maximum naturalness and translucency, especially for front teeth and a Hollywood Smile.
  • Veneers – when the tooth is healthy and only the front surface needs changing, with less reshaping of the tooth.
  • Zirconia – greater strength; better suited to back teeth, bridges, restorations on implants and patients who grind their teeth.
  • The dentist makes the final recommendation after examining your bite and the condition of your teeth.

Care

You clean all-ceramic crowns just like natural teeth, including between the teeth. Avoid biting on very hard objects (ice, fruit stones, opening packaging with your teeth). If you grind your teeth at night, the dentist may recommend a protective splint.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Can everyone have crowns in a single day?

Not everyone. At your consultation we assess your case and propose the best plan – if a single day is not feasible, it usually takes only a few days longer.

Are ceramic crowns strong enough?

Modern ceramics are strong and suitable for everyday chewing. For a heavier bite, teeth grinding or bridges, we more often recommend zirconia.

Will the crown look like my own tooth?

We match the colour and shape to your neighbouring teeth and carry out a try-in before permanent fitting – so you can see the result before the crown is cemented.
