Guided implant surgery

Implants without cutting or stitching the gum. We plan every implant in advance on a 3D model of your jaw and place it through a surgical guide made in our own laboratory.

What is computer-guided implant placement?

In conventional implant surgery, the surgeon opens the gum and decides the final position of the implant during the procedure itself. With guided placement, everything is decided in advance on the computer: a 3D CBCT scan of the bone and a digital impression of the teeth are merged in planning software (exoplan), where the position, angle and depth of each implant are defined – in relation to the bone, nerves, sinus and the future crown.

Based on this plan, our dental laboratory produces a surgical guide (template). During the procedure it guides the instruments precisely to the planned position – through a small opening in the gum, without a conventional incision.

Why patients choose guided placement

  • Quick – a short procedure, without long hours in the chair.
  • No cutting or stitching – the implant is placed through a small opening in the gum, without bleeding.
  • No pain – under local anaesthetic; less swelling and discomfort afterwards.
  • Faster recovery – most patients return to their daily routine the same or the next day.
  • Precise and predictable – the implant goes exactly where it was planned, with the future crown in mind.
  • See the plan in advance – we show you the position of each implant on a 3D model.
  • Guide from our own laboratory – no waiting for external suppliers.
  • One plan for surgery and restoration – the implant surgeon and the dental technician work on the same digital model.

How guided placement works

  1. 01

    3D CBCT scan

A three-dimensional view of the bone and surrounding structures – in our clinic, in one place.

  2. 02

    Digital impression

Scanning your teeth and gums produces a precise digital model of your jaw.

  3. 03

    3D plan in the software

The implants are positioned virtually, according to the future crown or bridge. We explain the plan to you on screen before you make a decision.

  4. 04

    Guide made in our laboratory

The surgical guide is produced using digital technology, exactly according to the plan.

  5. 05

    Placement through the guide

Under local anaesthetic, through a small opening in the gum.

  6. 06

    Restoration

The crown, bridge or fixed arch is made in our laboratory based on the same digital plan. In selected cases, temporary fixed teeth are fitted on the same day.

When is guided placement not possible?

When there is not enough bone for a stable implant, the bone must first be built up (bone grafting or a sinus lift) – in that case the treatment is planned in several stages. The implant surgeon decides on this after the 3D analysis, and you receive the plan before treatment begins.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Does guided implant placement hurt?

No. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, and because the gum is not cut or stitched, recovery is usually considerably more comfortable than after conventional implant surgery.

How long does placement take?

Placing a single implant through the guide is quick (see above). The total length of the appointment depends on the number of implants and the preparation required, and you receive an exact plan in advance.

When is guided placement not possible?

When there is not enough bone. In that case the bone first needs to be built up, and the implant is placed in a second stage. We assess feasibility on a 3D CBCT scan.

Why is recovery faster?

The implant is placed through a small opening in the gum, without an incision or stitches. There is less bleeding, swelling and discomfort, and most patients get back to their daily routine very quickly.

Can I see the plan before the procedure?

Yes. We show and explain the position of each implant on a 3D model before you make a decision.

Who makes the surgical guide?

Our own dental laboratory, based on the 3D plan – in the same building, with no shipping and no waiting.
