What are veneers?
Veneers (also called laminates or facings) are thin ceramic shells that are permanently bonded to the front surface of the teeth. Unlike a crown, which covers the whole tooth, a veneer covers only the visible part – so considerably less reshaping is needed, and where possible only minimal.
Veneers change the shape, length and colour of the teeth, close small gaps and even out the smile. When they cover all the teeth visible in your smile, we speak of a Hollywood Smile.
Who are veneers suitable for?
- Healthy front teeth that have darkened, where whitening does not give a sufficient result
- Chipped, worn or irregularly shaped teeth
- Small gaps between the teeth or slight irregularities in position, when orthodontic treatment is not wanted
- When you would like a visibly more beautiful smile and your teeth are healthy, without large fillings
When are veneers not the best choice?
For severely damaged or previously treated teeth with large fillings, or after root canal treatment, a crown usually protects the tooth better. With pronounced teeth grinding, untreated gum inflammation or decay, we first address the health of your teeth. Veneers and crowns are sometimes combined within the same smile – we make a recommendation after your examination.
How veneers are made
- 01
Specialist consultation
An examination of your mouth, a conversation about what you would like to achieve and, if needed, an X-ray or 3D CBCT scan – all in the clinic, in one place. Based on this, you receive a treatment plan and a quote.
- 02
Digital design and preview – when needed
We first design the new shape of your teeth digitally and try it in your mouth (mock-up), so you can see the result in advance and tell us what you would like to change.
- 03
Tooth preparation
The tooth surface is prepared under local anaesthetic – with as little reshaping as possible – and scanned with a digital impression.
- 04
Made in our laboratory
The dental technician designs and makes the veneers to suit your face, lips and neighbouring teeth.
- 05
Try-in and cementation
Before permanent bonding we check the shape, colour and bite, then fix the veneers permanently.
Veneers, all-ceramic, zirconia or SaraMax?
A brief comparison – we make the final recommendation after examining your teeth and bite:
- Veneers – for healthy front teeth; they cover only the front surface, so the least reshaping is needed. Typically used to change shape and colour, and for a Hollywood Smile.
- All-ceramic crowns – cover the whole tooth; for damaged or previously treated front teeth. The most natural play of light.
- Zirconia crowns – cover the whole tooth and are very strong; for back teeth, bridges and restorations on implants.
- SaraMax Premium – our premium way of crafting full-zirconia restorations, with an individual design for every crown; when both strength and aesthetics matter.
Care and durability
You clean veneers just like natural teeth, including between the teeth, and attend regular check-ups. Ceramic does not change colour, and durability depends on hygiene, your bite and your habits – avoid biting on hard objects, and if you grind your teeth, a night guard protects the veneers. Payment in instalments is available.

Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
Veneers or crowns – which is better?
For healthy teeth whose shape and colour we are changing, usually veneers, as they preserve more of the tooth. For damaged or previously treated teeth, crowns are better. We make a recommendation after your examination.
Do the teeth have to be filed down for veneers?
Usually only minimally – much less than for a crown. How much is needed depends on the position and shape of the teeth.
Is having veneers fitted painful?
It shouldn't be – the preparation is done under local anaesthetic. Afterwards your teeth may be more sensitive to hot and cold for a short time.
Will veneers look natural?
We choose the shape, length and shade together with you, in harmony with your face. When needed, you can try your new smile in advance (mock-up).
How long do veneers last?
Ceramic is a durable material; how long veneers last depends on hygiene, your bite, your habits and regular check-ups.
