Dental implants

An implant replaces the root of a lost tooth and supports a new crown, a bridge or a complete arch of teeth – so you can chew, speak and smile with confidence again. At Saradent in Sarajevo, more than 10,000 implants have been placed to date.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw, where it takes over the role of a tooth root. Once it has fused with the bone, a restoration is fitted on top – a single crown, a bridge or a fixed full arch – which replaces your natural teeth in both appearance and function.

Unlike a conventional bridge, an implant does not require the neighbouring healthy teeth to be filed down. Unlike a removable denture, the restoration is fixed: it does not come out, does not move when you speak and lets you chew normally.

Dental implants in Sarajevo – why B&B Dental

At Saradent we place implants made by the Italian manufacturer B&B Dental. We chose them for their quality, the manufacturer's support and the warranty the manufacturer provides on its implants.

Experience matters just as much as the material: more than 10,000 implants have been placed at our clinic to date.

When are implants a good solution?

Implants are considered for adult patients whose jaw growth is complete and who are looking for a permanent, fixed solution for:

  • A single missing tooth – one implant and one crown, without filing down the neighbouring teeth.
  • Several missing teeth – implants support a bridge of crowns instead of a partial denture.
  • No remaining teeth – a complete arch is fixed on 4 to 6 implants (All-on-4 / All-on-6).
  • An unstable removable denture – implants can support the denture or replace it with a fixed restoration.

What the treatment involves

  1. 01

    Specialist consultation

An examination of your mouth, a conversation about what you would like to achieve and, if needed, an X-ray or 3D CBCT scan – all in the clinic, in one place. Based on this, you receive a treatment plan and a quote.

  2. 02

    3D planning

A 3D CBCT scan is used to assess the quantity and quality of the bone and to plan the position of the implant in relation to the future crown. When the bone allows, placement is computer-guided – through a guide made in our laboratory.

  3. 03

    Implant placement

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic in our surgical treatment room. With guided placement, the implant is inserted through the guide via a small opening in the gum. If there is not enough bone, a bone graft or sinus lift is performed beforehand or at the same time.

  4. 04

    Healing

The implant fuses with the bone. During this time you wear a temporary restoration where needed, and we monitor healing at follow-up appointments.

  5. 05

Crown or bridge from our laboratory

After a digital impression, the final restoration is made in our dental laboratory, tried in and permanently fixed to the implant.

Aftercare and check-ups

An implant cannot get tooth decay, but the tissue around it can become inflamed if it is not looked after. That is why regular brushing, cleaning between the teeth, check-ups and professional cleaning are important. Smoking and poorly controlled chronic conditions (such as diabetes) can make healing more difficult – please tell us about them at your consultation.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Is having an implant placed painful?

No. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, and with guided placement the gum is not cut or stitched. Some mild tenderness is possible afterwards; you will receive aftercare instructions and, if needed, medication.

Which implants do you use?

We use implants from the Italian manufacturer B&B Dental, which we chose for their quality, the manufacturer's support and the warranty.

How long does the whole process take?

It depends on the condition of the bone and the type of restoration – usually a few months from implant placement to the final crown, longer if bone grafting is needed. You receive an exact plan after your examination and 3D scan.

What if I don't have enough bone?

In that case a bone graft (augmentation) or sinus lift is usually performed, and sometimes a different implant position or number of implants is chosen. Everything is assessed on a 3D scan. More on our Oral surgery page.

Can I get teeth on the same day?

Often, yes – when the bone allows, implants and temporary fixed teeth can be placed on the same day. We assess whether this is possible for you on a 3D scan.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, Saradent offers the option to pay in instalments. You will receive more information together with your quote.
