Orthodontics

Orthodontics

Straightening teeth and correcting the bite – for a more attractive smile, but also for easier cleaning, a more even load on the teeth and a healthier bite. Treatment is led by a specialist orthodontist, and we make clear aligners in our own laboratory.

Why straighten your teeth?

Crooked teeth are harder to clean, so they are more prone to decay and gum inflammation. An irregular bite can cause tooth wear and strain on the jaw joints. Orthodontic treatment is therefore not just about aesthetics – it is often also preparation for other treatments, such as implants or a Hollywood Smile.

Types of treatment

  • Fixed braces – brackets and a wire; aesthetic ceramic or sapphire brackets, which are less noticeable, are also available.
  • Removable braces – an acrylic base with wires; most often used for children with mixed dentition (around 8–9 years of age) and for retention.
  • Clear aligners – a series of clear trays with no wires or brackets. We don't order them from an external manufacturer: we plan them digitally and make them in our own laboratory. They are removed for eating and brushing.
  • Retainer – fixed or removable; maintains the result achieved after treatment.

Course of treatment

  1. 01

    Specialist consultation

An examination of your mouth, a conversation about what you would like to achieve and, if needed, an X-ray or 3D CBCT scan – all in the clinic, in one place. Based on this, you receive a treatment plan and a quote.

  2. 02

    Diagnostics

X-rays (a panoramic OPG, and CBCT if needed), impressions or a digital scan, and a bite analysis.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Choice of appliance, an estimate of treatment length and the schedule of check-ups.

  4. 04

    Treatment and check-ups

Fitting the appliance and regular check-ups; with clear aligners – changing the aligners according to the plan.

  5. 05

    Retention

After treatment, a retainer maintains the result.

Who is a candidate?

Most often children and teenagers, but increasingly also adults who are unhappy with the position of their teeth or their bite. Candidates for fixed braces are usually over 13, while removable braces are also used for younger children. It is worth having a child's first orthodontic check-up early – even before all the permanent teeth have come through.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

It depends on the type of irregularity and the appliance – usually from a few months to more than a year. You receive an estimate of the duration with your treatment plan.

Can adults wear braces?

Yes. Orthodontic treatment is possible at any age, provided the teeth and gums are healthy. Adults often choose aesthetic brackets or clear aligners.

Are clear aligners just as effective?

For many irregularities, yes, but not for all. At your consultation, the orthodontist assesses whether aligners are suitable in your case. We make the aligners in our own laboratory.

Why is a retainer important?

After treatment, teeth tend to move back towards their original position. A retainer maintains the result.
