General dentistry

The foundation of a healthy smile: regular check-ups, scaling, treatment of tooth decay and root canal treatment – at our clinic in Donji Hotonj, with X-ray and 3D diagnostics in the same place.

Regular check-ups

Most dental problems are easier and less costly to resolve early. At a check-up we examine your teeth, gums and existing fillings and restorations, and take an X-ray if needed. We recommend a check-up and professional cleaning roughly twice a year, or more often if the condition of your gums requires it.

Scaling (tartar removal)

Tartar forms when plaque mineralises, most often along the gum line and on the inner side of the lower front teeth. It causes gum inflammation and bleeding, gum recession and bad breath. It is removed with ultrasonic instruments and curettes, after which the tooth surface is polished so that plaque is less likely to build up.

Treating tooth decay

Tooth decay develops when bacteria in plaque produce acid that damages the enamel and dentine. Treatment involves removing the decayed tissue and restoring the defect with a tooth-coloured filling. With more extensive damage, it is better to protect the tooth with a crown. With good hygiene and regular check-ups, decay can be prevented or detected in good time.

Endodontics – root canal treatment

When the dental pulp (nerve) is inflamed or has died, the tooth can often be saved with root canal treatment: the tissue is removed, and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and filled with a biocompatible material. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. After treatment the tooth is often more brittle, so it is a good idea to protect it with a crown.

Dentistry for children

We don't have a dedicated children's practice, but we are happy to see children – from their very first introduction to the dentist onwards. That is exactly what the first visit is for: the child gets to know the treatment room, the chair and the team, without any treatment, so that later check-ups and treatment can take place without fear. Later on, we carry out check-ups, fissure sealing, treatment of baby and permanent teeth and, if needed, an orthodontic assessment.

When to see a dentist without delay

  • Pain that wakes you at night or does not go away
  • Swelling of the face or gums
  • Gums that bleed when you brush
  • A broken tooth, filling or crown
  • Lasting sensitivity to hot and cold

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a check-up?

Usually twice a year, together with a professional clean. If you are prone to decay or gum inflammation, the dentist may recommend more frequent check-ups.

Is root canal treatment painful?

It is carried out under local anaesthetic, so it should not be painful. For a few days after the procedure, the tooth may be tender when you bite.

Where is the clinic?

At Donji Hotonj 9, Vogošća (Sarajevo). We have free parking, and the clinic can also be reached by public transport.

Do you treat children?

Yes. We don't have a dedicated children's practice, but we see children from their very first introduction to the dentist onwards – the first visit is about getting used to things, with no treatment. Get in touch and we'll arrange an appointment.
